We Compare Our Work with Afghans and Persians to a Garden
The variety of trees and plants in a garden is a beautiful picture of the different people we work with:
- Every tree bears different fruit — each person has a unique calling.
- Every tree has roots — every person should become deeply rooted in the Word of God.
- Every tree needs sunlight and rain — every person needs the presence of God and the Holy Spirit.
- Every tree needs to be pruned in order to bear fruit — every person needs the guidance and discipline of the Holy Spirit.
- Weeds need to be pulled out — old ways of living and unhealthy patterns are replaced and renewed.
A garden is also a spiritual place where anyone can encounter God. In a garden, you can simply be—you don’t have to accomplish anything or prove yourself.
Our garden is a place where people are accepted, loved, cared for, shaped, and nurtured. It is a place where they can discover who they are and who God has created them to be.
